Audi is considering building a new electric vehicle (EV) plant in the United States.
The decision comes in response to the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which stimulates EV production in the country.
Audi's e-tron EVs are currently manufactured in Brussels, Belgium, while a factory near the US is based in San Jose Chiapa, Mexico.
If Audi builds a US-based EV plant, it will likely be a joint venture with the Volkswagen Group.
The IRA requires EVs to be assembled more widely in the US to qualify for some tax credits.
Other federal regulations such as the CHIPS and Science Act are also encouraging companies to manufacture EV products in the US.
The IRA has already spurred more than $28 billion in EV industry investment announcements between August 2022 and the end of the year.
A new EV plant in the US would better align with these plans.
