The Ram 1500 REV, Ram’s highly anticipated all-electric pickup truck, was officially confirmed at the Chicago Auto Show this week. CEO Mike Koval Jr. spoke to MotorTrend about the REV, saying that the response to the concept was overwhelmingly positive and that only minor design changes would be made to the production model.

“You don’t abandon your core,” Koval says of Ram’s loyal customer base. “The trick is to provide a truck that is modern but not George Jetson space age in design.”
Koval stated that the REV design is largely locked in, but there is room for some small tweaks based on the reaction to the concept. He added that the final version will be more conservative in design compared to the concept, but still modern, as the brand doesn’t want to abandon its core customer base.
The REV is expected to have regular doors for the crew cab, Ram boxes that are twice the size of the current model, tracks that run through the cabin and extend to the end of the pickup bed, and an industry-first third row of jump seats that are removable.
Ram is also considering a range-extending version of the REV, which would be a plug-in hybrid with a small gas engine to keep the battery charged and extend the range. However, this is not a done deal yet as there are engineering challenges to overcome. The priority for the brand is to launch the REV first, as part of Stellantis’ Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan to phase out combustion engines for all 14 Stellantis brands.
