Cadillac has announced that it will reveal three new electric vehicles (EVs) this year, which will go into production in 2024. While details are still being worked out, the automaker has confirmed that all the EVs will be global vehicles and will be built in multiple locations. With this announcement, Cadillac has reiterated its commitment to having an all-electric portfolio by 2030 and being the lead GM brand when it comes to EVs. Additionally, the automaker plans to use GM’s Ultium battery management system in all its future EVs, and they will feature enhanced Super Cruise known as Ultra Cruise that debuts on the Celestiq.
The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq, Cadillac’s first EV, is ramping up production. The automaker opened order books for the Lyriq last May, with deliveries set to start in fall 2022, nine months ahead of schedule. However, the first models off the line had some software issues, resulting in Cadillac building over 8,000 vehicles in 2022 but only delivering about 120, according to GM Authority. Cadillac has resolved the bugs and has shipped 1,000 units in the last 30 days. The Debut Editions are set to be delivered by the end of this quarter.
Additionally, Cadillac is set to start building the 2024 Cadillac Celestiq, a super-luxury sedan, in December. Interest in the bespoke vehicle is high, with the car starting at more than $300,000 and easily adding $100,000 to customize. Although Cadillac has not provided volume figures, the planned output is two models a day, with no more than six vehicles in the assembly process at any one time.
MotorTrend has previously reported that an electric crossover comparable in size to the Cadillac XT4 will be the second EV for the brand after the Celestiq. The Chevy brand has the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV and the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV in the works, so similarly-sized Cadillac SUVs make sense. The GMC Hummer EV SUV lays down a track for a similarly large electric Cadillac Escalade, potentially.
In this article, we discuss Cadillac’s commitment to EVs, its plans for future EVs, the production ramp-up of the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq, and interest in the bespoke 2024 Cadillac Celestiq.
