Volkswagen believes that America deserves vehicles that are made specifically for its market. For this year, the German automaker has updated its seven-seat 2024 Volkswagen Atlas midsize SUV, which was first introduced in the U.S. in 2017. The updated model retains its original bones but comes with an overhauled exterior styling, interior layout, and a new engine.

New Engine and Improved Performance

The 235-hp 2.0-liter TSI four-cylinder and 276-hp 3.6-liter VR6 FSI engine options have been replaced by a single new turbo four-cylinder engine, producing 269 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. Volkswagen claims that the new engine offers improved acceleration and is expected to improve fuel economy, which will be reported later. Despite the powertrain changes, the Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport are still rated to tow 5,000 pounds.

Striking New Design

The 2024 VW Atlas models have a new look that is sure to turn heads, especially at night. All but the base models of each SUV now feature a new light bar that stretches from headlight to headlight in the front and taillight to taillight in the rear. To top it off, the VW logo also lights up. Both new SUVs also come with a new spoiler that extends the roofline over the rear window.
